I’m on vacation so I won’t be posting much this week but I ran across this piece via ACRLog. Its about “The Cult of Innovation” and both the Business Week article and the piece by Steven B address the overabundance of “new”technology. Its interesting food for thought especially for librarians who are eager to roll out the next big thing in technology. I have to agree that in many cases in the library world the technology appears before the user need but that doesn’t mean we won’t discover a truly meaningful way to apply the technology, just look at all of the mash-ups out there. The trick is to be aware of all of the new tools, try them out for yourself before rolling them out in the library and consider the needs of users and combining multiple tools to meet those needs.
